About VPT (Association for Stage Technology)

The VPT (the Dutch Association for Stagetechnology) represents technical professional development of stage engineering. Key-notions are innovation, propagation of knowledge, networking and defense of interests.

The VPT is a large association of about 1400 members (persons, companies, venues, theatre companies, educational institutes)

Innovation

Each year the VPT organizes many theme and study days. On these days experts will thoroughly discuss innovative topics within the stage and events industry, such as light, sound and AV technology, stage design and theatre buildings.

As a member you can attend these days at a high discount.

Propagation of Knowledge

Information about all the activities cited above is given in the magazine Zichtlijnen. The VPT is the publisher of the magazine Zichtlijnen, the professional magazine for workers behind the screens of theatrical arts. It includes articles on current topics such as new theatres, new technology, special productions and designs. Being a member you will get a free subscription to the magazine.

Network

The VPT is a typical association which exists by and for its members. This group of members is very diverse, next to about 950 personal members the VPT also has many organizations as member, such as theatres, theatrical companies, commercial companies and educational institutes. The VPT proceeds in all its activities as much as possible in cooperation with the working field. The working field thus is actively involved in the development and conception of the VPT program. Due to this working method you will be part, as VPT member, of a network of persons active in stage technology.

Defense of Interests

The VPT advices the industrial boards in the development of new policy on working conditions. In this the VPT focuses in particular on practical usability. The VPT is presently working on the development of a working conditions catalogue for the entire industry.

Since 2007 the VPT has a cooperative with OSAT, the leading quality controller of education in the field of stage and events technology. OSAT brings the working field and education providers together. It increases and monitors quality of education and adjusts the schooling to the needs of the working field.

The VPT is represented in the NEN norm committee Evenementen and the European CEN workshop for lifting and hoisting in the stage and events industry. In these committees the VPT defends the interests of users. A norm or directive is only effective if it is workable in practice! A VPT working group is also working on a practical guideline ‘Fire-safety of sets’.
